LA SERRE EN BUISSONS
Spatial design and participatory construction workshop ● Marseille, FR ● 07 / 2026

As climate urgency pushes us to rethink how we inhabit our cities, initiatives that reactivate neglected spaces play a crucial role in shaping resilient urban futures. In Marseille, the project Bastide à Fruits (a project of the association VVOUM) is part of the bottom-up ecological transition: a community fruit garden project turning a small wasteland into a nourishing and collective place for growing food and learning about biodiversity.
To support the association’s expanding network of local plant nurseries, we collaborated on the design and construction of a greenhouse dedicated to seed production. Based on the re-use of building materials, available resources and the existing site, we developed the designof the structure, situated in an open area located on the edge of the site. The remains of a brick wall and a chimney that had once stood there were placed in the center of the greenhouse.
During a two-week participatory building workshop in the heat wave in mid july, volunteers, gardeners, and neighbours came together to construct the greenhouse. Skills, techniques, and experiences were continuously exchanged on site, making the construction process a space of mutual learning.
